SPONSORING ORGANIZATION TRIBUTE 2000
| The Mexico City Prosthodontic
Society Founded in 1975 |

|
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The Mexico City Prosthodontic Society
is to assist the dental community in learning the latest
technologies in all the different fields of prosthodontics,
so they can provide their patients with the best treatment.
In addition, annual meetings feature invited specialists
from overseas to broaden the education of the dental
community. |
|
Before the advance education
programs in prosthodontics were available in Mexico,
there was little opportunity to attend continuing education
meetings. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, people
from Mexico began to enroll in advanced training in
prosthodontics, mainly at the universities in the United
States. One of the innovators of prosthodontics in Mexico
was Cuban-born Dr Carlos Ripol, who lectured extensively,
mainly on the subject of fixed prosthodontics. He created
schools for advanced education of specialists in the
area of oral rehabilitation.
In Mexico City, the first national meeting of prosthodontists
was held in 1975 by a group of dentists who formed the
Mexico City Prosthodontic Society. The first president
was Dr. Lauro Cantu and, from that time, monthly scientific
sessions and annual meetings have been organized and
attended. As the same time, in cities such as Guadalajara,
Monterrey, Culiacan, Ciudad Obregon, and Morelia, prosthodontic
societies were formed.
The Mexico City Prosthodontic Society has evolved over
the years. At the beginning, dentists without prior
prosthodontic training got together to learn more about
prosthodontics for their practices. In 1984, when Dr
Jorge Paras became the president of the society, dentists
with advanced training in prosthodontics were invited
to share their scientific and technologic knowledge
at the lectures, courses, and meetings,,so that other
dentists and dental students could learn about both
the latest techniques and the different procedures being
used in prosthodontics, making the society a diverse
but well united group. A few months later, Dr Kenneth
D. Rudd became an Honorary Member of our society.
|
He has shown great interest, collaboration,
motivation, knowledge, and friendship to The Mexico
City Prosthodontic Society and to our country. We
are grateful to him for him for this.
Today, the society has, as members, many of the specialists
who were trained in prosthodontics outside of Mexico.
Also, the society is part of the Mexico City Dental
Association, which is a branch of the Mexican Dental
Association.
