Dental implants are TITANIUM cylinders that are placed in the upper or lower bone, as a "fixture" to help support a dental prothesis, which will serve as a substitute of the lost natural teeth. The prothodontist can build these protheses, customed design and shaded to aestheticaly suit each patient's distinctive facial requirements.
The evolution of Dental implants in this century has ocurred with different materials. Today's Dental Implants are made of TITANIUM, which is a precious metal, that has proven to be well accepted in the bone where it is placed. Sophisticated research for more than three decades in Europe, the United States and abroad has recognized titanium for it's biological compatibility with the human body.
Dental implants are indicated:
Where there is a loss of one or many teeth
When the metal casting across the palate of upper removable partial denture, or the metal casting near the tongue of a lower partial denture are bothersome.
When the patient that wears clasps of the partial denture has never accepted the esthetics of the metal smile of front teeth.
When retention of a lower or an upper partial denture is a problem.
The treatment with dental implants in México requires of a minimum of 2 stages. The first stage construction is a surgery procedure, that is performed by Dr. Carlos Schwartz. Nearly all implants are placed in the mouth with local anesthesia in a dental chair. No pain is felt during the surgical procedure. Depending upon the number of implants placed, there may be swelling and/or tenderness for a few days following the surgery. Pain medication is usuallly prescribed which alleviates this discomfort and a soft food diet.
The second stage is the prosthesis construction is made by Dr. M. Moreno. MS
The healing process of the jaw bone and the building of the new teeth may be accomplished in as little as four months, though the upper bone normally requires seven months to heal.
Dental implant patients range from age nine to a 100. A single congenitally missing tooth can dramatically change the life of a youngster; the replacement of implant dentures in an older patient can make the golden years more fulfilling , and considerably gentler to both the digestive tract and the cardiocascular system. Contraindications: only patients with rare blood diseases, leukemia, or patients being treated with chemotherapy.
